The kings ride out with maps and confidence.
They leave with cracked lips.
In the desert,
thrones discover thirst.
Plans discover limits.
Horses discover dust.
And then—
a prophet is found.
But he does not flatter.
He winces.
He asks for a musician.
Because sometimes the word of the LORD
must break through a room full of noise.
God gives water without rain.
He gives victory without applause.
And he leaves one question hanging in the air:
What will you do when God helps you,
but you still haven’t learned to listen?
This is 2 Kings 3.
