The temple has been rebuilt, but the people still must be formed. Stones can stand while hearts wander. Altars can smoke while obedience grows thin. So the story turns from cedar and sacrifice to Scripture and teaching. Ezra comes up from Babylon with the scroll written in his bones, carrying the heavy ink of God's heart, the hand of the Lord upon him, and a holy calling: to study, to do, and to teach the Law of the Lord.
